The features of the replacement window style you choose should match your design style and your lifestyle! Unfortunately, many window sellers and installers are clueless when it comes to helping you select the best window features for your family’s needs.

At Can-Do we thoughtfully and skillfully help you find the replacement windows that are right for your home’s style – while still offering you the features that you need for comfortable So Cal living.

In this article we discuss a few of the Pros (and Cons!) of the various replacement window styles we offer.

Double Hung Replacement Windows

Double hung replacement windows have that classic window look. Updating to double hung replacement windows can maintain a traditional style, or give your home a contemporary twist on a classic look.

Additionally, from an ergonomic standpoint, double hung windows open and close the most easily of all window styles. Modern technologies make today’s double hung windows easy lifting, making opening and closing them literally a breeze!

The “downside” to double hung windows is that the horizontal bar in the middle can obstruct views of the outdoors.

Slider Replacement Windows

Slider Replacement Windows are comprised of a single fixed widow unit with an additional window unit that slides horizontally.

This style allows in the most light, as it is unobstructed. Slider Replacement Windows are perfect for homes with a contemporary or Mid-Century Modern Style.

If you’re looking to give your home a modern, updated look with a retro twist (slider windows first gained popularity in the 1950s and 1960s), consider slider replacement windows.

Casement Replacement Windows

With Casement Replacement Windows, half of the window is hinged, while the other half opens like a door.

Casement replacement windows are known to be the best at keeping out drafts. They are also known for giving you the option of bringing in a nice side breeze into your house, as they “scoop” in the air from outside.

Keep in mind, though, that during periods of particularly hard wind, it is not advised to fully extend your casements, as it can result in damage.

Fixed Replacement Windows

Sometimes called “picture windows” fixed replacement windows are sealed in place, and do not open.

Fixed picture windows are a perfect choice for the energy-conscious consumer, as they lack any permeable sections to be infiltrated by air.

Sleek and modern, this replacement window design does not typically have “grilles” or ornamentation. This makes them the most contemporary of all your window replacement options, in addition to offering the best views.

As fixed replacement windows do not have an opening mechanism, they are not optimal for letting in fresh air into your home. Often, however, fixed windows are situated between two (or more) windows that open, to allow ventilation.
